If you’ve been on a wedding blog recently
You’ll see it’s full of inspiration. I’m here today to offer a different kind of inspiration. The kind of inspiration that hopefully will appeal to the kind of ladies that don’t generally look like your stereotypical ‘lady’. If the idea of false lashes, long flowing hair- bohemian or otherwise and a lace satin gown fills you with dread, THIS is the DIY Tutorial blog post for you. Gorgeous imagery by Lisa Jane and if you’d rather watch it in motion there’s a beautiful video at the end of the post by Irene Piera Films.
The first thing I do when I meet any potential client is ask them about their skincare routine ( if they have one) and how much make up they would feel comfortable wearing and what they want to look like. Negine is one of those ladies that cleanses with good old soap and water ( cringe but better than not cleaning her face AT ALL- trust me I’ve heard those stories), barely moisturises and doesn’t like feeling ‘stuff’ on her face.
So, to start we cleansed and exfoliated Negine’s skin. Simple’s Exfoliating Wipes were perfect for this. Convenient and great to use on the go or in a studio rather than spa environment they refreshed Negine’s complexion ready for moisturising.
Starting on the T Zone and using Heal Gel Intensive, it’s my go to supremely lightweight moisturiser that’s pretty perfect for skin that needs a little extra TLC. As Negine’s skin also can be a little dry, especially on her cheeks so we used a pea sized amount of Embryolisse Lait Concentre.
Post foundation I wanted to conceal under our model’s eyes. Being Iranian she has hereditary brown colouration and we wanted them to appear brighter and clearer. I’ve started an odd way round by adding a heavier foundation- Bobbi Brown’s foundation stick in Warm Sand. Applying this in a triangular sweep under the eye.
I’ve then continued the layering by firmly sweeping Peach colour corrector under the eye to really drown out any lingering brown tones. I used Bobbi Brown’s Eye Blender brush for this. Remember less is more. You can end up suffocating the skin by using too much, this will begin to crease.
Bringing my Ecotools Stippling brush back I applied an allover glow of healthy colour with L’Oreal’s Paris Glam Bronze. One light dab is usually enough for the whole face if you don’t wear much make up- especially bronzer.
I’m pumping Clarin’s Instant Light Radiance Boosting Complexion Base in Champagne as a highlighter . You can use this over or under your make up. I’ve chosen to apply this with my MAC 109 Small Contour Brush but you could use the same brush as we’ve used before. This is a very subtle illuminator and is warm in tone. Perfect for Negine’s yellow toned Iranian Complexion.
Using the same MAC 109 contour brush I’m adding Bobbi’s Uber Beige pot rouge. It’s a lovely peach toned blusher that is more editorial than girly pink. It’s adds another dimension to the make up and will add a luminosity to skin as it’s a creme rather than a powder.
Apply to the apples and just under that ‘ dip’. ( hint: see where the shadow is between the bottom of the apple of the cheek and the jowl- BINGO!)
Next up is applying a primer to the eye ready for the lining we’re going to be doing. I love MAC’s pro pots. They can double as eyeshadow depending on the colour you buy. As we’re doing a super natural look I’ve used Painterly. Paint on with a small eyeshadow/ thick eyeliner brush and blend.
Using the same brush apply Clinique’s Stroke of Midnight eyeshadow and blend into the lash line.
Plenty of mascara will really make those lashes stand out. Make sure it’s tear friendly! This one is Clarin’s Truly Waterproof Mascara. Wait for the first coat to dry then add another. A third coat will truly vamp them up. We did two for this look.
I finished Negine’s eye area by using the concealer brush to highlight under the brow and taming the hairs themselves with clear mascara gel. I only filled them in slightly to even out any sporadic areas. Again, the idea of this tutorial is to show how wearing very little can transform your look in a groomed an elegant rather than overtly feminine way.
A tinted lip treatment balm finished things off beautifully. Your lips can never be too moisturised! Try Clarins’ Instant Light Natural Lip Balm Perfector in Rose.
