Claire’s journey was an epic one to say the least. Claire is coeliac and wanted a stunning, luminous pretty gluten free makeup with bright pink lipstick. Our journey together started with a consultation in London to discuss her gluten free requirements, skincare regime and hair and makeup ideas.
After meeting with Claire in London I spent the next 9-10 months researching gluten free makeup, skincare and what the differences are between oats, barley and various other grains, their uses in skincare ( vitamin E aka tocopherol, vitamin B5 aka panthenol among others ), and what effect they would have on the skin and how important it was that they NOT be in any of my kit on the day or during her trial. I also made sure I didn’t eat any myself during any appointment with her so as to not risk any cross contamination.
A few months before Claire’s wedding she booked me for a shopping trip in London. Using the first third of my research endeavours we visited various beauty counters and boutiques- Cover FX, RMS Beauty, Amazing Cosmetics, and others listed here via The List; yep, Claire’s coeliac journey ( and that of another allergy sufferer in 2018 ) was that important and interesting to me I started to compile a comprehensive yet simple and effective list of products that were gluten free/ nut free/ vegan friendly etc. She went back to home armed with a gorgeous full face of products. I then created a step by step video for her to refer to whenever she needed using all the products she’d invested in during our gluten free- beauty personal shopping trip.
Claire had a bridal party of 6 and with my being 6 months pregnant at the time of the trial I enlisted the help of Cass Rizzuto to work her hair magic. Claire’s trial with us was held in the Marylebone salon Cass works in. We went through her gorgeous new makeup kit again and tried her brand new lipsticks she was excited to show off. Armed with lip options Claire finalised her look which was a luminous base of Exuviance Gentle Cleansing Creme, Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre, Cover Fx’s serum primer and custom cover drops, RMS Living Luminiser, Pixi Beauty Multi Balm in Baby Petal and Wild Rose sticks for blusher, Pixi Beauty and Jouer Cosmetics shadows held together with Kiko Milano’s Nude Eye Primer finished off with Barry M’s Dazzle Dusts in gold and rose shades. The Bridal party’s look was put together with a similar palette in keeping with the coeliac requirements.
I honestly thank Claire SO much for entrusting me with the huge responsibility that is Gluten Free beauty. It turned into a huge passion of mine, I became quite obsessed about it! That year taught me so much about what goes into beauty and skincare products that we use everyday without thinking about it. I’m such an ingredients nerd anyway and relished the opportunity to learn more about my craft. I also want to thank the brands listed above, most in The List and during our shopping trip. Brands that are hugely transparent about what is in their products and why, make our lives and my job, a little easier.
