I’ll be honest
I wasn’t going to post this. But I’ve decided, ‘ what the hell’ and decided to as it really is a help for those of you wanting to know how to apply false eye lashes. ( it’s also a lovely testament to a couple of wonderful colleagues of mine- Lisa Jane and Irene Piera).
The reason I wasn’t going to is I’m a perfectionist and I really don’t show off my best skills here- we did three blog posts that day including this one- ( The Non Bridal Bride and Summer Skin) and I was on a time limit with models and my camera ladies! This tutorial/ how to/ step by step is aimed at those that would either love their lashes to be bigger and fuller but also look somewhat natural, and those that hate strip lashes. It’s obviously also aimed at those wanting to learn how to apply them by yourself onto yourself of that all important hen do/ birthday party/ general special occasion.
You want to start by…
Gathering your tools, your eye lash curlers- mine are Shu Uemura. I also high recommend Surratt eye lash curlers. Your mascara- mine is usually Bobbi Brown as having spent lots on high street mascaras the past year have decided that only high end ones need apply to be in my personal kit. You will also need your chosen length of lashes- I prefer to use a mixture of ‘ mini’ ones which tend to be able 5mm/7mm in length and ‘ short ‘ ones which tend to be between 8mm/ 9mm in length. You will also need a mascara spool, tweezers and eyelash glue. My favourite is Duo.
Start curling your lashes by pumping along your lash at regular intervals from the base of the lash to the tip.
Once you’re happy with the curl
Add a mascara of your choice. Here I was using the WOW Mascara by Bobbi Brown. It made quite the mess on my hooded, puffy eyes ( ridiculously large wand ) and have since gone back to the Smokey Eye Mascara.
I rushed two coats here. Try and take your time with the mascara. Really try and get those lashes equally coated, lengthened and volumised with a clean zig zag motion up the hair. Wait until they’re fully dry and re coat.
Whilst your second coat of mascara is drying
…add a petit pois sized amount of lash glue to the back of your hand and select the lashes you want to add to your lash line. I use black lash glue as I’m usually 1- ALOT neater than this, and 2- Using eyeliner or dark shadow/ primer along my lash line.
When your glue starts to dry, the outside rim will go black- don’t panic! Using your tweezers as you picked up your lashes from the palette, dip the root of the lash into the glue.
You will need to look down into a mirror
If your mirror is attached to a wall you will need to tilt your head right back to see down the shaft of the hair into the root and your skin. If your mirror is on the table like mine tilt the glass towards the ceiling and lean over it. And working your way from the outside of your lash line snuggle the lash right onto your skin between the lashes themselves. In this video and in the pictures I’m placing them a smidge too high- perfectionist much?
Continue to place the lashes in fairly even spacing but taking care to fill in any gaps left by your own lashes.
When you’re done
And they’re starting to dry use your mascara spool to comb through any straggling bits/ lashes unnecessarily stuck to glue. That’s it! You have successfully managed to apply false lashes onto yourself! Will you be trying this for events this summer? Do you have a tactical way of applying your false lashes?
