I got married! Myself and my incredible now husband tied the knot at York House, on the river front near Twickenham and Richmond. Our wedding reception was held in Kew Gardens. For my bridal hair and makeup look I decided on a copper and gold smokey eye, red lip and bronzed skin.
I don’t ever wear blusher as my skin is super prone to redness; temperature changes, alcohol, nervous energy, you name is my cheeks flush a splotchy beetroot! My eye makeup was MAC Constructivist Paint Pot, a Nars bronze and gold eye palette mixed with black shadow for intensity and Surratt Liner. I also added LOADS of lashes to help my hooded eyes stand out.
I was lucky enough to be able to give myself a few trials, being a hair and makeup artist and all! At first I thought I wanted something quite vampy, with purples and blacks. After trialling that with my hair up and down I decided that it would be too much.
My complexion was a mixture of Bobbi Brown Foundation stick, Uber Beige Pot Rouge and MAC Mineralise Soft and Gentle Highlighter and RMS Beauty highlighter. My lips were lined with Marks and Spencer’s Red Lip Pencil and painted with my favourite ever lip paint/ stick- Hourglass Opaque Rouge in Raven.
My hair was a lengthy process. I started growing it as soon as we got engaged as I didn’t know what I wanted to do with it. Over our 2.5 year engagement I grew the top from it being a very short elfin/ pixie crop, to it being just past my chin. I experimented with curling the fringe and the more I honed the curl the more I loved the texture and height it gave me and my 5ft2 stature. It was really flattering.
I got my hair cut two days before the wedding. I loved it but the sides and back were not short enough. My then very French male hair dresser wanted to keep me looking ‘feminine’ so didn’t cut it as short as I wanted, I didn’t realise until I had left. My hair line at the back of my head is super low and needs to be shorn and maintained like a barber would a gentleman’s hair. I adorned my do with a simple Jenny Packham crystal head piece.
My sister’s makeup was kept very pretty and fresh. Like me she loves wearing a red lip and flushes red very easily. We gave her a full coverage foundation, bronzer and highlighter like myself and we used the same lipstick so make her blue eyes pop. We kept her eye makeup really simple, a champagne gold shimmer wash over the eyes, a slick of liner and lots of mascara. She didn’t want to wear false eyelashes.
Torie’s fine hair was blow dried with some product and back combed with a volume powder to inject some volume, especially at the crown. I sectioned the hair to add French plaits around her face and gathered them into a cradle shape at the back. We adorned the plaits with a pretty clip found from Highland Angel on Etsy.
My beautiful Mum used to be a skinhead (!) and is not a girly girl at all. I gave her amazing cropped hair a blow dry and again injected some volume with a dry root powder. We kept her makeup mega simple. A pampering cleanse, Kiehls’ BB cream with SPF50, a touch of highlighter and some bronzer. Eyelashes were curled, mascara added and eyebrows tidied with some clear mascara. Lip balm was added for moisture and that was it. She felt like the best version of her self and not overly made up.
